PhD Students

We have a fully-funded 3.5-yr PhD studentship available for October 2024 (UK or Irish students only), co-funded by SpiroChem (see advert here). The project is titled "New Synthetic Strategies for Access to Nitrogen-Containing Bioisosteres for Medicinal Chemistry". Please get in touch with Alex (a.j.cresswell@bath.ac.uk) for further information.

Applications from prospective PhD students are welcome at any time. Candidates should have an excellent academic track record and a strong motivation to conduct original research in synthetic organic chemistry. If you require further information on the availability of PhD places or the research we are currently undertaking please get in touch (a.j.cresswell@bath.ac.uk).

Potential PhD candidates may also want to consider the following sources of funding:

Postdoctoral Researchers

When there are no funded positions advertised, and you are interested in joining the group, then you must secure your own postdoctoral fellowship support. Assistance in crafting highly competitive applications will be provided, if required. For possible sources of postdoctoral funding, see the links below, and please get in touch (a.j.cresswell@bath.ac.uk) if you wish to apply for any of the fellowships:

Undergraduate Students

Summer placements are potentially available within the group; please contact Dr Cresswell for further information.

Project students will receive thorough training in experimental organic chemistry, including the use of inert atmosphere (Schlenk) techniques, purification methods (e.g. column chromatography, distillation, recrystallisation), and modern analytical tools (e.g. NMR, MS, GC, FT-IR, etc.). They will also be exposed to a number of new techniques and technologies, including photoredox catalysis and flow chemistry.

Academic Visitors

Opportunities may be available for short term visitors and summer students to work in the group. Please contact Dr Cresswell for further information.
