It's beginning to feel like Xmas has come early to the Cresswell group. Our new GC-FID system has just arrived! This will prove invaluable for high-throughput reaction optimisation, and its a damn sight cheaper than NMR.

Our new Vapourtec Easy-Medchem flow reactor has arrived! This will enable us to dabble in some flow chemistry and also carry out our photochemical reactions in continuous flow.

Our new Advion compact mass spectrometer has arrived! This is an awesome piece of kit that also enables us to obtain mass spectra directly from silica TLC plates. It'll also prove handy for reaction monitoring.

An exciting result from Alison and Cormac's project on C(sp3)-H functionalisation using photoredox catalysis. Our very first screen (32 x 0.15 mL scale) identified a number of hits, and NMR analysis indicates clean conversion to product! Watch this space...

Alex has been awarded a £150k Research Grant from the Royal Society.

Professor Mike Hill, Dr Claire McMullin, and Dr Alex Cresswell have been awarded £1.2 million of EPSRC funding to jointly develop new synthetic reactions using readily-accessible boryl anions! The title of the grant is "Nucleophilic Alkaline Earth Boryls: From Conception and Theory to Application" and will involve a three-way collaboration across inorganic, organic, and computational disciplines. A 3 year postdoctoral position within the Cresswell group will soon be advertised in relation to this project.

Alex co-hosts the SCI's 24th Annual Review Meeting at SCI HQ in London. Fantastic set of review lectures (from Rob Phipps, Anna Slater, Daniele Leonori, and Jordi Bures) and two stunning keynote lectures from Professors David Procter and Martin Smith. Looking forward to the 25th meeting this time next year!
